Center for Earth Jurisprudence is a nonprofit organization based in Orlando, Florida, dedicated to advancing law and policy designed to legally protect the sustainability of life and health on Earth.

We are a team of lawyers at the Barry University School of Law, working to develop a philosophy and practice of law – known as Earth Jurisprudence – that gives greater consideration to nature. This emerging field recognizes the interconnectedness of Earth’s natural systems, the inherent rights and value of nature, and the dependence of humanity and all living beings on a healthy planet.

Our work encompasses advocating for the adoption of Earth Jurisprudence principles, conducting research, and hosting events like the Rights of Nature Symposium and the Environmental Justice Symposium. We strive to create a legal framework that reflects the intrinsic value of the natural world and ensures a sustainable future for all.

Founded in 2006, the Center for Earth Jurisprudence is an initiative of Barry University, furthering the legacy of Thomas Berry’s vision of a hopeful future guided by creative responses to present urgencies.
